MTD Faculty Travel Awards

PURPOSE​
​

​The School of Music, Theatre, and Dance offers merit-based Faculty Travel Awards to support faculty participating in high-impact research, scholarly, and creative activities (RSCAD) that exceed the funding capacity of standard travel allowances. The goal is to enhance both faculty work and the School's national/international reputation.

 
ELIGIBILITY​

 

Newly hired faculty are eligible in their first year.

Continuing faculty must have:

  • Completed the most recent annual evaluation cycle with all required materials.

  • Received a comprehensive rating of "Meets Expectations" or better.

APPLICATION CYCLES​

 

Fall Cycle: For travel from January 1 – June 30.
Deadline: First Friday in September.

​

Spring Cycle: For travel from July 1 – December 31.
Deadline: First Friday in February.

​

Notes: Travel spanning both periods may be submitted in either cycle. Typical awards range from $1,000 to $2,500.

APPLICATION PROCESS​

 

Faculty must submit their applications at the link below and upload the following materials:

  1. A one-page abstract summarizing the RSCAD activity.

  2. A detailed budget outlining anticipated travel expenses.

SCORING RUBRIC
​

Step 1: Objective Scoring (Maximum: 20 Points per Associate Director)

​

Each Associate Director will assign a score based on the following rubric:

​​​​

1. Years at K-State

  • First Year - 5 points

  • 2-3 Years - 4 points

  • 4+ Years - 3 points

​

2.  Rank

  • Assistant Professor - 5 points

  • Associate Professor - 3 points

  • All non-tenure track ranks - 3 points

  • Professor or UDP - 1 point

​

3. Scope

  • International - 5 points

  • National - 3 points

  • Regional - 1 point

​

4. Type of Opportunity

  • Presenting a Paper - 5 points

  • Performing - 5 points

  • Conducting Applied Research - 3 points

  • Poster Session or other RSCAD activity - 1 point

​

Step 2: Subjective Prioritization

 

After scoring, each Associate Director will independently review all applications and rank them based on subjective merit. This step ensures that applications with unique or high-impact potential are given appropriate consideration beyond just numerical scores.

​

Step 3: Score Calculation

 

Each Associate Director’s objective score (out of 20) and subjective ranking-based prioritization are combined to determine the final score. The final score for each applicant is calculated using the following formula:

AWARDING​
​

The sum of each Associate Director’s final scores will determine awarding priority by the director.
