Collaborative Pianist Funding

The School provides financial support for pianists accompanying required student juries and degree recitals. Because we will have more applied students than ever this year, we are introducing a clearer and more sustainable process.

1. Choose a Pianist

Students are responsible for finding and scheduling a pianist for all performances, including juries and degree recitals. At the beginning of each semester, students will receive a list of approved student and professional pianists called the MTD Collaborative Piano Team. School funding is available only when a student works with a pianist from this team. The amounts below represent the maximum contribution available from the School.

2. Select One Funding Option

Students enrolled in the applicable applied lesson or recital course may receive funding for one option per semester:

  • Jury: Up to $100

  • Voice Lesson Package: Up to $175

    • Includes eight 30-minute lessons or rehearsals and the jury. Available only to voice students enrolled in MUSIC 255, 455, or 855.

  • Half Recital: Up to $200

  • Half Recital plus eight voice lessons: up to $275

  • Full Recital: Up to $300

  • Graduate Recital or Master’s Report MUSIC 898: Up to $300

  • Full Recital/Master's Report plus eight voice lessons: up to $375

Students enrolled in two applied studios may request one eligible funding option through each studio.

3. Request Funding

To request funding:

  1. Contact a pianist from the MTD Collaborative Piano Team and confirm repertoire and/or availability.

  2. Complete the Collaborative Pianist Form.

  3. The pianist, studio teacher, and MTD main office will receive automatic approval requests.

  4. Once all approvals are complete, everyone will receive a confirmation email.

The School will pay the approved amount directly to the pianist through its standard payment process. Students and pianists should agree in advance on the number of rehearsals needed. The School’s funding is a contribution toward that cost and may not cover the pianist’s entire fee depending on the arrangement.  If the approved pianist or performance arrangement changes, the student should notify the MTD main office.

Pianists Outside the Team

Students may work with a pianist who is not on the MTD Collaborative Piano Team, but the student will be responsible for all costs. School funding must follow state requirements governing student employment and guest-artist payments.
