VIII. Student Organizations
Student organizations are important communities within the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance. Recognized Student Organizations (RSO) must be recognized by Student Programs and Involvement (SPI), as well as have an advisor. “An advisor is a member of the university faculty or staff, on at least 0.5 FTE, who acts as the primary liaison between the university and the recognized student organization. All advisors are required to complete training as mandated by
SPI and to annually sign the advisor acknowledgement” (PPM Chapter 8540.020).
Student organizations are classified either as Sponsored or Affiliated Organizations. All organizations coordinated by OrgCentral and governed by Kansas State University’s Student Governing Association (SGA).
Sponsored Organizations “are those considered congruent with the mission and culture of the university and operate as a part of a university department or unit” (PPM Chapter 8549.030).
Affiliated Organizations “are those that are, in general, interest groups and provide engagement activities that are primarily for their direct membership” (PPM Chapter 8549.030).
Further expectations, procedures, and details can be found on the Student Organization Recognition Policy website.
