XVII. Marketing & Box Office

XVII.a. Marketing

The School has a Marketing Office that is managed by the Director of Marketing with support from students. MTD’s Marketing office is available to work with faculty on communicating news and information outside of the School and the University and will serve as the liaison between MTD and the Division of Communications and Marketing (Dole Hall). Additionally, the MTD Marketing Office staff is available to consult for social media, web design, and some print materials. Faculty should complete a faculty funding request for any marketing-related expenses. Faculty who need their events added to the calendar, advertised, or have any posts or information that need to be shared in the media or social media should complete the Submit News and Events form.

XVII.a.i. MTD Recital, Ensemble, or Small Performance Programs

Using the templates at https://www.k-state.edu/mtd/student-success/studentrecitalperformances/. Faculty should create their program and submit it to theatre@ksu.edu at least two days prior to the event. The requesting office or faculty member is responsible for all program content, dates, relevant information, and name spellings. Program content will be published as submitted.

XVII.b. Box Office

All ticketed events for MTD can be purchased in person at the box office the day of the show or ordered online with no additional convenience fees at https://www.ksu.edu/mtd/tickets. MTD Faculty and staff can receive two complimentary tickets to any on campus MTD event ticketed through our website. To receive a complimentary ticket, faculty and staff must follow the necessary steps to create an account on the ticketing website. These steps will be emailed to all new faculty and staff by the MTD ticket site manager at the beginning of each year. Faculty who would like to use the box office for a ticketed event should email theatre@ksu.edu.

XVII.b.i Ticketing Operations & Fee Structures for Ticketed Events in McCain Auditorium:

Season Subscriptions & Ticketing Control

  • MTD Ticket Management: McCain Auditorium was previously in charge of all MTD ticket sales. MTD eventually took over ticket sales tied to established MTD season subscriptions, specifically Theatre, Dance, and Opera productions. MTD will continue to manage these ticket sales, preserving current oversight.

Ticket/Usage Fees for McCain Venue Usage

When MTD utilizes McCain Auditorium for ticketed performances, the following standard fee structure applies:

  • Customer Facility Fee: A $2.50 facility fee per ticket, plus applicable sales tax, will be passed directly to the ticket purchaser at the point of sale.

  • MTD Venue Facility Fee: A separate $2.50 facility fee per ticket is charged directly to MTD for auditorium venue usage.

  • Online Convenience Fee: A $5.00 internet fee per ticket applies to all transactions completed through online ticketing channels.

  • Sales tax: 9.15% on order

  • $15 Minimum Pricing Threshold: Due to the cumulative fixed fee load ($2.50 customer fee + $2.50 Ticket Facility fee + $5.00 online fee + 9.15% sales tax), holding a ticketed event at McCain is financially disincentivized unless the ticket price is set at $15.00 or higher.

Faculty Pricing Guidance: If faculty desire a ticket price below $15.00, they should not offer a

paid ticketed event at McCain. Instead, they are directed to utilize the free but accepting donations (or free with RSVP) structure managed through the MTD Box Office.

Unified Fee Absorption Rule

To maintain transparent pricing for patrons, MTD operates under a unified fee absorption policy:

  • The event holder absorbs all ticketing service fees and taxes.
